Make a Donation via Donor-Advised Funds
Riverfront contributors often choose to give through donor-advised funds such as Fidelity, Ayco, Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford, Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, Schwab, and others. Simply contact your donor-advised fund and let them know you would like to support Riverfront Recapture through your fund. Determine the amount and provide Riverfront’s address: 50 Columbus Boulevard, 1st Floor, Hartford, CT 06106.
Make a Donation through your IRA
If you are age 70½ or older, you may send direct contributions from your IRA, reducing your tax implications at year-end. Contact your IRA provider, let them know the amount you’d like them to send, and have them transfer funds from your IRA directly to Riverfront Recapture, 50 Columbus Boulevard, 1st Floor, Hartford, CT 06106. You may also wish to designate Riverfront Recapture as a beneficiary of all or a portion of your IRA. Please let us know if you have taken this step so that we can add you to our Legacy Society.
Marfuggi Parks Fund
The Marfuggi Parks Fund was created to support park repairs and improvements that fall outside day-to-day needs. Learn more about how you can support this unique fund.
Endowment
Endowment gifts provide long-lasting support of Riverfront’s vision and mission. Gifts of cash or stock, through a donor-advised fund, bequest, life insurance, or charitable trust are invested, and a small portion of the investment proceeds can be withdrawn and used to support Riverfront’s needs.
Legacy Society
The Riverfront Legacy Society recognizes those who have included Riverfront Recapture in their estate plans. Our friends who join this group want to ensure that the Riverfront stays open and accessible to future generations. Members are recognized in the Annual Report (unless otherwise requested) and often receive special invitations to events.
If you are thinking of including Riverfront Recapture in any of your planned giving vehicles (bequests, Life Insurance, IRA, charitable trust), or if you have already done so, please contact Deborah Baker via email or call 860.713.3131 ext. 326.
Before or after a conversation with us, we strongly encourage you to work with your attorney or financial advisors to develop the best options for you and your loved ones.
Bequests
Including Riverfront Recapture as a beneficiary of your estate might benefit your loved ones, as the charitable contribution removes a portion of your taxable estate. You might wish to consider:
- Specific Bequest: Describe exactly what you want to leave to Riverfront, such as a specific dollar amount or percentage, or a particular item (such as an antique or collector’s item). For example, your will could state: “I leave my diamond engagement ring to my granddaughter, Samantha. I also leave my stocks and bonds, in their entirety (or state specific stocks or bonds) to Riverfront Recapture, Inc.”
- Residuary Bequest: This type of bequest is honored after all other bequests have been made and all debts, expenses, and taxes have been paid. For example, your will could state: “I give all the rest, residue, and remainder of my real and personal estate to Riverfront Recapture, Inc.”
- Contingent Bequest: This type of bequest is fulfilled if certain conditions are met. For instance, if your primary beneficiary does not survive you, you can indicate your next choice through a contingent designation. For example, your will could state: “I give all the rest, residue, and remainder of my real and personal estate to my husband, Bob, if he survives me; if not, then 50 percent in equal shares to my children who survive me and 50 percent to Riverfront Recapture, Inc., Hartford, CT.”
Riverfront Recapture advises you to consult with your attorney or tax advisor when considering a bequest. We also ask you to contact us to inquire about planned giving that might be most suitable to your situation or to let us know that you have included us in your will by contacting Deborah Baker via email or phone at 860.713.3131 ext. 326.
